This temple was built in 806 on the mountain Senkoji Yama. The mountain also has Senko-ji Park with temple at its center and a ropeway. From the premises you can overlook Onomichi which makes it a popular night spot.

Apart from the Red Hall (main hall) and a huge rock called Tama no Iwa. Inside the rock there is a hole (radius – 14 cm, depth – 17 cm) with a gem which, according to a legend, illuminates in the night. Inside the main hall there is a hidden Buddhist image of Kannon which is displayed once in 33 years.
