Description
The Kenshunmon gate, also called Hi-no-gomon, is one of the twelve gates originally enclosing the Kyoto Imperial Palace (Kyoto Gosho).
A four-legged gate with a gable roof. Large undulating bargeboards are placed at the front and back of the gate. Structurally it is a typical four-legged gate that has two circular main pillars and four square secondary ones. It is open on all sides. Panelled doors, with flower patterned grilles are inserted in the transoms which are characteristic of the Zen style. The door is of plain wood with little carving.
This gate is no longer used for passage.
